Welcome to the North Texas Guitar Club

The North Texas Guitar Club was started by Dave Lewis in November of 2006. Dave was recently retired and had just moved to Plano, Texas and wanted to meet other guitarists in the area. He pitched the idea on a number of guitar forums for a Plano, Texas based club and received many responses from guitarists located throughout the DFW metroplex. Dave took the next step and organized the first meeting of the club in November. The first meeting had about 15 people show up and it was decided at that meeting to change the name of the club from Plano Texas Guitar Club to North Texas Guitar Club, based primarily on the varied location of the members who showed up.

In December 2006, the club's internet presence was moved from a Yahoo! based group to their own web site and own forums. The club expanded from a handful of members to almost 100 members in just 4 months. Initially, the club had one meeting a month. Currently, the club is hosting two meetings a month, a general meeting and an acoustic guitar only meeting.

The club's members consist of a wide variety of players; ranging from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals, acoustic to electric, and many different musical styles from Jazz, Rock, Blues, Fingerstyle, Classical, Country and beyond.

The intention of the club is to provide the following:
  • Help guitarists meet other guitarists.
  • Make it possible for advanced guitarists to mentor beginners.
  • Allow guitarists to share resources, such as books, tabs, software, CDs, etc.
  • Share experience with various makes of guitars, amps, and effects.
  • Provide an opportunity to jam with other guitarists.

There are no dues to join the club, only a willingness to interact with other guitarists.

Please feel free to browse our site, come to a meeting and check out our forums.

Conrad/Aria Diamond 1202T hollowbody guitar (ca.1967) owned by Ken (guitarzahn)
The body is a Gibson ES-335 inspired double cutaway thinline with rounded upper and lower horns. The top has a sunburst finish and is pierced with 3-part f-holes with the rounded ends separated from the center part of the "f". The pickguard, switch cover and pickup surrounds are 4ply faux tortoise. The two pickups are single coils selected with a three-way lever switch. Each pickup has individual tone and volume controls. The bolt-on maple neck has a bound, 21 fret, rosewood fretboard and plastic block inlays. Notice that the ends of the fretboard are rounded at the corners, a sign of quality in these early Japanese hollowbodies. The movable bridge is adjustable and the tailpiece is a traditional trapeze coupled to a spring Bigsby base. The tremolo bar is one of the longest you will ever see. The three-and-three headstock is somewhat Gibson-style with a deep notch in the center. The headstock is faced with the same tortoise used on the pickguard. This guitar has a script Conrad badge indicating it was imported by David Wexler and Company of Chicago, Illinois.
